Migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Virtual Machine

On New Windows 10 Virtual Machine
Step 1: Backup Local Files All working documents should be saved to a network drive and opened from a network drive. Any local files on the machine should be backed up to a network drive. 1. Save files to a network storage drive such as the Home drive, or create a temporary folder on the Share drive. ![]() 2. After selecting a network storage location, navigate through all of your local folders, select all files and copy over to the network location.

NOICE: Exported password files should be stored in a SECURE location that nobody else has access to, such as your Home network drive, or your Share\Drop Folder network location. Please view the links associated with your preferred browser for instructions to export bookmarks and passwords: Google Chrome Importing Advisory: Google Chrome requires a Google account to import password files onto a new machine. A free account can be created at www.gmail.com. Microsoft Edge Importing Advisory: Microsoft Edge DOES NOT have a way of importing an exported .CSV file as of August 2021. This feature may be coming but is not currently available. Exported files can be used as reference when logging into a website on a new device for the first time. On the taskbar, unpin the native mail application but right-clicking on the envelope, then selecting Unpin from taskbar from the menu. ![]() 2. Pin Outlook 365 (Note: the desktop application must be installed first) by navigating to Start Menu > Scroll down the application list to Outlook, then right-click Outlook > More > Pin to taskbar. This will provide easy access to Outlook email. ![]() 3. Set your default mail application and preferred browser. Windows 10 defaults the browser to Microsoft edge and mail application to the native mail application. You'll want mail to default to Outlook. You'll want to change your default PDF viewer to your version of Adobe Acrobat.
